Did you know that it's OK for your teen to be online? You may have heard reports that you can't trust your child while s/he is using social media but those reports may be biased toward kids who can't control themselves. If you've done your parenting job well, social media use can be a positive and maturing experience. You just need to make sure your teen behaves appropriately in not only the online world but in the real world. Teach your child to be respectful toward others, act responsibly, and reinforce that nothing is private in the online community. After all, what your child does online now is there forever. That's their "digital footprint" and it's easy to follow by almost anyone now and in the future.

Oh, yes. Make sure you keep the lines of communication open with your teen. By showing them that you respect them, you are showing them that you value their growth and are willing to let them have responsible freedom. Good luck!
