Farm to School Initiative
On Tuesday, August 30th, 3300 ears of corn were shucked by Western Dubuque Community School District students in an effort to introduce locally grown produce to the school lunch program.

As part of the USDA Farm to School program, the district's Food and Nutrition Department is striving to introduce locally grown produce into school meals on a monthly basis. With the help of the Cascade Jr./Sr. High School FFA, and the Western Dubuque High School FFA, foods class and physical education class, all ears were shucked and ready to be cooked for lunch service on Thursday, September 1st. Fresh Dubuque County bell peppers will be served the week of September 5th and broccoli, lettuce, and watermelon will be coming soon.
