A Message from of Carol Freeze, Juvenile Court School Liaison
Several years ago the Juvenile Court School Liaison (JCSL) program began. It is a partnership between Juvenile Court Services and local school districts to provide services to youth in the school setting. For the past few years I have served as the JCSL for the Western Dubuque School District. In that capacity, I work with students, families, and other agencies to prevent truancy, drop outs, at-risk behaviors, criminal activities, and tardiness.
When school, Juvenile Court Services, Department of Human Services, area agencies, parents or students makes referrals to me, we work collaboratively to assist the student as a team and provide consistent guidance to resolve problems which may be preventing school success.
A JCSL is an important link between the schools and community agencies, which provide services necessary to resolve problems that can inhibit a student's school success. Students attending classes at any school in the Western Dubuque district are eligible for JCSL services. On a consultation basis, I also work with the parochial schools within the Western Dubuque district.
Through a variety of interventions, I can provide information and guidance to those students and their families who need assistance to experience greater success in the educational setting. In some cases, outside service providers will be accessed to assist the students/families. There are many service providers available to residents of the Western Dubuque school district and the Juvenile Court School Liaison can assist in accessing the appropriate service provider when needed.
