Iowa School Board Recognition Month

 Iowa School Board Recognition Month

Western Dubuque Community School District joins school districts across the state in honoring our elected school board members. In recognition of their dedicated service, May is Iowa’s annual School Board Recognition Month.

Our volunteer school board members contribute thousands of hours each year working to ensure we are providing the best possible education for our students. The time spent in board meetings represents just a small fraction of the hours school board members spend leading our District. Their job is to establish a vision for the education program, design a structure to achieve that vision, ensure schools are accountable to the community and strongly advocate continuous improvement in student learning. This job entails an endless string of meetings and school functions to attend; several reports, agendas, proposals and other information to read and study; and a host of difficult decisions to make.

While we give special recognition to our board members in May, it is important to remember that their contributions are year-long, and unpaid. School Board Recognition Month is an opportunity to highlight their dedication and all they do on behalf of students. This year’s theme, “Building Brighter Futures”, recognizes that Iowa’s volunteer school board members are providing innovative leadership through responsibilities ranging from strong financial stewardship to ensuring high-quality curriculum. Their goal is to make sure all students are prepared for a “brighter future” when they graduate.

Please join us in thanking our school board members for their generous commitment in ensuring our students are receiving a quality public education.

Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week

Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week

Teachers have a big impact on students’ lives and, in an effort to honor them for “making a difference”, the National Education Association (NEA) observes National Teacher Day on the Tuesday of the first full week of May. This year’s National Teacher Day was Tuesday, May 7.

It takes a team effort to provide a safe, healthy, and supportive learning environment for our students and therefore Western Dubuque Community School District, along with many other school districts, recognizes this first full week in May as an appreciation week for the entire staff. Employees in the educational field, classified and certified, are all role models. We have a common goal of working together to ensure our schools are the best they can be for our students.

The administration thanks all of the Western Dubuque employees for their contributions and the role they play in upholding our mission to “empower confident, well-prepared citizens to excel in the 21st century”.
