Welcome to the Western Dubuque Community School District (WDCSD) Instructional Services Department. Dawn Schiro, the Director of Curriculum and Assessment, is responsible for the development, coordination and supervision of Instructional Services. The Instructional Services Department focuses on curriculum, instruction and assessment to develop educational programming focusing on increasing student achievement.

The WDCSD has an aligned curriculum between elementary, middle school and high school providing quality learning outcomes for our students. Professional development activities for teachers are targeted toward differentiated instruction and instructional reading strategies. Teachers meet several times a year working on strategies to best meet the needs of all learners. The district also has Action Research Teams in each building working on meeting building plan on a page goals (see Continuous Improvement).

Students in the WDSCD are assessed using the Iowa Tests of Basics Skills and Educational Development and Measures of Academic Progress. Both of these testing devices are used to meet the federal requirements of No Child Left Behind.
